Welcome. This is your Evening Downshift: a short, gentle way to close the day without trying to force sleep or solve tomorrow tonight. Begin where you are sitting. Let both feet meet the floor or a steady surface. Notice three ordinary things in the room: a line, a colour, and a source of quiet. There is nothing to achieve in this moment. Let your shoulders rest. If your jaw is holding the day, allow a little space between the teeth. Keep your breath natural. Rather than making it deeper, simply notice the next exhale arriving and leaving on its own. Now place one hand lightly over the lower abdomen, below the navel, and one hand over the centre of the chest if that is comfortable. In Chinese wellness language, this is a small invitation for the day’s outward activity to gather inward. You do not need to feel anything special. Stay for three unhurried breaths. Ask yourself one quiet question: what can remain unfinished until tomorrow? Name one item, and set it down for the night. Then ask: what supported me today, even in a small way? Let one answer be enough. For the final minute, soften the eyes and widen your attention to include the space behind you, beneath you, and around you. The day can end without a perfect conclusion. When you are ready, choose one next gentle action: dim one light, prepare a warm drink, or place tomorrow’s first task on paper. Thank you for taking this pause.
